One of the most premier educational institutions in the country, Andhra University is also the first of its kind to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University, which was mainly devoted to post-graduate teaching and research. Established in 1925, AU was set up by the Madras Legislative Act, 1926. The 82-year-old University had Sir C.R. Reddy as its founder Vice-Chancellor, and it proved to be fortunate, as the steps taken by this visionary turned out to be fruitful in the long run. AU is a UGC recognized Institute and is also an active member of the AIU.
